Registration Now Open for CWCI's 59th Annual Meeting

Oakland, CA – The California Workers’ Compensation Institute (CWCI) has announced that registration is open for its 59th Annual Meeting, which will be held as a live event on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Pacific) in the Hofmann Theater at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, California. 

This year’s meeting will address ongoing economic and demographic changes in California and their influence on the California Workers’ Compensation System.  The program will include:

  • CWCI Senior Vice-President Rena David and President Alex Swedlow who will present new research on issues that are likely to be reform targets in 2023, including managed care reform, cumulative trauma, and more.
  • Sarah Bohn, Vice President of Research and Senior Fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California who will offer insights on the evolving California economy and demographic shifts and assess their impact on the state’s industries and workforce.
  • Dave Bellusci, Executive Vice President and Chief Actuary, California Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau who will speak to the intersection of the California economy and workers’ compensation rates.
  • Jason Schmelzer, Legislative Advocate and Partner at Shaw, Yoder, Antwih, Schmelzer & Lange who will join CWCI General Counsel Sara Widener-Brightwell to discuss the political environment and the key players who will be involved in 2023 reforms.

Other topics and speakers will be announced in the conference agenda which will be released in January.

The CWCI 59th Annual Meeting is free to CWCI member company employees, regulators, and the press; $325 for all others.  The meeting will begin with a Continental breakfast at 8:00 a.m., and will also include a luncheon from noon to 1:00 p.m.  All those planning to attend the meeting must pre-register.  

The Lesher Center is located two blocks south of the Walnut Creek BART station on the corner of N. California Blvd. and Civic Dr.  Parking is available at the N. Please Note:  To balance the desire to meet in person with the safety of attendees, CWCI and the Lesher Center will abide by all COVID-19 public health directives from Contra Costa County’s Health Director.  Currently those directives do not require masking, but the attendance criteria are subject to change so please check https://www.lesherartscenter.org/plan-your-visit/health-safety before attending the live event.  The Lesher Center is large enough to allow for appropriate social distancing of attendees.
